Y'Shua is YHWH Part 3
by Rabbi Ian K. Michaels
I, even I, am He that blots out your transgressions for my own sake, and will not remember your sins. [Isaiah 43:25] Only YHWH can forgive us of our sins. Jews and Muslims find common ground on at least this one foundational point. No Prophet at any time went about forgiving men’s sins. Yet, we find the lowly carpenter of Nazareth at the very beginning of His public ministry forgiving sins.
And entering into a boat, He passed over, and came to His own city. And see, they were bringing to Him a paralytic lying on a bed. And Y’shua, seeing their belief, said to the paralytic, “Take courage, son, your sins have been forgiven.” And see, some of the scribes said to themselves, “This One blasphemes!” And Y’shua, knowing their thoughts, said, “Why do you think wicked thoughts in your hearts? “For which is easier, to say, ‘Your sins have been forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Arise and walk’? “But in order for you to know that the Son of Adam possesses authority on earth to forgive sins...” He then said to the paralytic, “Rise, take up your bed, and go to your house.” And he rose and went to his house. And when the crowds saw it, they marveled and praised Elohim who had given such authority to men. [Matthew 9:2-8]
And why did the scribes think Y’shua was blaspheming? Because they were scribes, and this much they knew from the Scriptures. No man can forgive sins! This is one definitive moment where Y’shua of Nazareth reveals that He is none other than YHWH in the flesh (also found in Mark 2:2-12). Today, there are many who need to have this one point established in their minds, as did the scribes of old. ONLY YHWH CAN FORGIVE SINS. It is blasphemy to do so, yet Y’SHUA FORGAVE SINS!
